A story concept based on a Chinese myth called the Fauna of Mirrors.
The fauna once defeated and forgotten, begin to converge with the people of Earth in a vengeful awakening. Their journey back into the world leaves victims in insanity and despair, before finally overtaking the host in a sudden wave of eerie silence.
